SMTP Access

Using our SMTP service, you can compose and send email using any desktop-based email software such as Mozilla ThunderBird, Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail etc. Desktop-based email softwares will allow you to compose emails even when you are offline - you would need to connect only when you want to send all the emails that you have finished typing.

POP3 Access

You can download and view your email using your favorite email client such as Mozilla ThunderBird, Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail etc. If you have other email accounts, you can even download all emails into that email if that email interface allows you to download emails using POP3. You can also retrieve emails via your handheld such as Plam Treo. You do not necessarily have to use the web-based email client only.

Using our POP3 service, you can download all your email when connected to the internet and then view and manipulate the retrieved messages without needing to stay connected. Our email server allows you to set your email software to "leave mail on server" - which is very useful if you want to download the same messages from a different computer, or read your messages from the web-based email client at a later date, or just maintain a copy of your messages on the server for backup purposes.

eMail Forwards/Aliases

Email forwards/aliases are email addresses configured such that all incoming mails to them, are forwarded to other email address/addresses. A choice of forward/alias can be anything - corporate name, business department, additional nickname, misspellings etc. An email forward/alias can redirect all incoming emails to - one or more email accounts, mailing lists or other email forwards/aliases. Following are some examples:

Say, one of your employee - Mr Rao - has just left your organisation. You now want to forward all mail coming to Mr Rao to Ms Chitra. To do this you can add as an email forward/alias that redirects all incoming email to

Srinivas primary email address is You want all mail coming to,, to be redirected to so that Srinivas doesn't need to check many different email accounts and also catch mis-spelled emails, all you need to do is, just add an email forward/alias for the same.

Say, you want a copy of all mail coming to your sales department to go to each individual working in the sales department, i.e. Swathi, and Geetha of which swathi has gmail account and Geetha has hotmail accountl. Auto-responders, Vacation messages and Email Bots

You can enable the auto-responder feature to reply automatically by the email server as soon as an email is received for that specific email address. Auto-Responders are commonly used for the following:

Vacation messages: When you are on vacation or out-of-office, you can automatically notify anyone who sends an email to your email address saying you are out-of-office. For eg, Mr. Chris can setup a vacation message as "I am currently on a business trip and have limited access to my email. I will be back on Friday, 5th Oct. In case of any urgent work, you may contact Mr Sam at 123.123.1234 in my absense."

Delivery confirmations: You can notify anyone that sends an email to this address that their message has been received. For example, an auto-responder for a sales email address - "Thank you for contacting us. This is to confirm that your message has been received by us. We will be replying to you shortly."

Emailbots: Our email server allows you to use auto-responders like a fax-on-demand system for email. For example, you can setup an email address, such that anyone sending an email to this email address would send an email brochure containing details about dotCommerce.

Catch-all email Addresses

A catch-all is an account that receives messages sent to non-existent email addresses at your domain name. For example, if someone sends a mail to, and the account didn't actually exist, your catch-all would receive this message. A catch-all email address can ensure that genuine and possibly important communication intended for you is NEVER missed.

The catch-all account could be configured to:

Store all incoming messages (mailbox)

Forward all incoming messages to one or more email addresses

Send a customized auto-response

Bounce all incoming messages

Silently delete all incoming messages without a bounce

Mailing lists

You can setup a mailing list in the form of a newsletter, an announce list, a private discussion list or an open discussion list. You can choose to moderate messages and mailing list subscriptions. The email administrator control panel also allows you to view and edit your member lists, automatically block mails where message size is greater than the size specified by you, add a specific message at the end of all posts, add / remove moderators, block specific users from posting to your list etc.
